What is Ahmedabad ni Gufa?

Amdavad ni Gufa is an underground gallery designed by architect Balkrishna Doshi in collaboration with artist Maqbool Fida Husain. Design of the unusual gallery began in the early 1990s.
The gallery sits at Kasturbhai Lalbhai Campus in Navrangpura, opposite Gujarat University campus and CEPT campus. From Rudra Royale, a three-star hotel, it is about an 11-minute drive or a 30-minute walk.
What art and architecture can you see inside?

The domes are built from ferro-cement and covered with china mosaics designed to deflect sunlight. Below ground, diffused light and curved surfaces shape the gallery’s interior.
Inside, you can see Husain’s murals alongside tribal-style artworks. The complex also includes the Herwitz Gallery, which hosts temporary exhibitions, and a book counter selling art-related books. An amphitheatre is used for performances and events from time to time, with a café attached.
What are Ahmedabad ni Gufa’s opening hours and access details?

Published visiting hours differ, ranging from 16:00 to 20:00 to 10:00 to 20:00. Entry is free, and the Exhibition Gallery and Gufa are closed Mondays and public holidays. Check the official site before you go.
The gallery is on Kasturbhai Lalbhai Campus, Navrangpura.
